It’s that time of year. Back to school, back to work, back to that manuscript/pilot/first draft. And we have the perfect motivation to get you back in the writing groove: our Fellowship! After twenty years of serving Los Angeles writers, we know how important it is to work in an environment that is distraction-free with abundant coffee. Sounds like a dream too good to be true? Not any more!
We are going to award one up-and-coming writer in the west Los Angeles area. The Prize? A FREE six-month Premium Membership here at theOffice to take your craft and career to the next level!
How it Works

You send us a sample of your work and one paragraph describing who you are and how you’ll use your time at theOffice. Our judges will select a winner who will receive six months of free 24/7* access to the space. This fellowship is equivalent to 6 months of our “Premium Membership” – the highest level of membership we offer – worth upwards of $2700. Winner will also receive other perks of membership, including: unlimited coffee/tea, a locker for storage, free WiFi and the opportunity to connect with our room of working writers.
This year’s Fellowship starts on October 16 and goes through April 15, 2025. It is 100% free to enter. Winners will be announced the week of October 7th.
How to Apply
- Email us with your contact info: Full name, phone, and email address. We will contact the winner via email.
- In the body of the email, briefly explain your goals as a writer, why you need this fellowship and what project(s) you’ll be writing in the coming months. Please don’t apply unless you’re confident that you can make use of your time here over the next six months.
- Attach a 10 page PDF writing sample to your email. Your best 10 pages. Don’t submit pages that need to be set up or explained. Send 10 pages that stand alone. PDF submissions only. All other attachments will not be considered.
Email: theOfficeFellowship@gmail.com by September 23, 2024. That’s it. You’re done!
Important Dates to Know
- Deadline to enter: September 23, 2024
- Winners announced: week of October 7, 2024
- Fellowship dates: October 12, 2024 – April 15, 2025

Guidelines
- Serious submissions only, please. Don’t apply if you’re not local, if you’re not sure you’ll be available, if you don’t like writing in a quiet room with others. If you live on the eastside, are you really going to be able to handle that commute? Maybe you could forward this to your westside writer friends instead. We want the winner of this fellowship to really be able to make use of it. Please only apply if you’re sure we’re a good fit.
- If you’ve never worked in our space, we offer a FREE WEEK to all newcomers. We encourage you to try us out first.
- All forms of writing accepted. Submit 10 pages of your screenplay, TV pilot, stage play, fiction, essay, memoir, poetry, etc. We’ll read it all. Your submission will be judged by three writer-members here at theOffice.
- You should be an “up-and-coming” writer ie: you don’t have many writing credits on IMDb or you’re not an author with a three-book deal. There’s no hard and fast rule here but we’re looking for someone with a good handle on their craft who hasn’t yet gotten their big break.
- DEADLINE TO ENTER is September 23, 2024. No submissions accepted past midnight PST.
- You must have sole writing credit for the sample pages you submit. This fellowship is for one (1) free premium membership and is non-transferable.
- theOffice staff will NOT be able to assist you with the fellowship so please do not call, email, or drop by with fellowship queries. (Staff is available for general office questions only.) If you have fellowship questions, please email theOfficeFellowship@gmail.com.
- Current members of theOffice are not eligible.
- Winner will be notified the week of October 7th.

theOffice Fellowship is an opportunity for one lucky writer to get the dedicated space they need to hone their craft and advance their career. We look forward to reading your work!
