Mark Manson – Quote of the Day

“I recently heard a story about a novelist who had written over 70 novels. Someone asked him how he was able to write so consistently and remain inspired and motivated every day, as writers are notorious for procrastination and for fighting through bouts of “writer’s block”. The novelist said, “200 crappy words per day, that’s it.” The idea is that if he forced himself to write 200 crappy words, more often than not, the act of writing would inspire him and before he knew it he’d have thousands down on the page.” – Mark Manson

This quote relates directly to the “Do Something Principle,” in which doing something, anything really, is better than doing nothing at all. If you want to read more about this, here’s a great article: MM.Net: The Do Something Principle

I decided a few months ago that I would buy a handful of self-help books, read them, and move forward as I progressed. My theory was I’d never need to read another self-help book, because I’d have everything I needed to get started. I’ve read my fair share of them, but none of them have quite hit the mark until now. They all had bits and pieces that I’ve used to improve the direction I want to head in, but now I feel like this is it. Believe it or not, the last one on my list has been the most effective!

Right now I’m reading Mark Manson’s book, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck.” If you’re looking for a self-help book, it’s one of the best I’ve read, and I’ve read my fair share of them. It just hits home for me. If you’re interested, it’s about being honest with yourself and your values, and choosing carefully what you really care about in life. This way you’re investing your time in what’s important to you, rather than wasting it away on the trivial things. It really makes you look inward. This may sound obvious, and it should be, but it’s not to most people.

After reading this, do something. Do anything. You will feel good, I promise.
